What do you put in a blog? Well I guess we’ll learn that as I go along, but I suppose there should be news, as well as reflections. So our next gig is at the Brunswick Tavern on Saturday 9 June. Brighton Strangler are an indie punk band, and we will be first on, followed by a funk band doing covers and then a DJ set probably playing disco and soul. Now that is an eclectic mix and I’m not really sure that we will be liked, or even appreciated. And there I was earlier complaining that we don’t play to the general public. That is what I want to do, but maybe not this general public. A couple of things about this gig, firstly they are letting us play for 30 minutes. Now that is the shortest amount of time that you can play, without it seeming unbelievably rude. In the sense of, you can play, but we are only giving you half an hour, because we have no interest in you whatsoever. This is also borne out, if you study the poster, you can see our name right down there in the bottom left corner. If they had made us any smaller I think that perhaps only bacterium would have been able to read it. They have also spelt our name wrong, we aren’t Brighton Stranglers, that’s how much they care.
Compare this with our poster when we headlined the Cowley, you can read who the support bands are, and then when we supported Neil at the Pelirocco, he only went and made the band’s names the same size. How generous was that! So don’t ever let anybody ever tell you that size doesn’t matter, it really does and clearly in the world of promotional posters it matters a lot. As I rant about this, I’m realising that my ego is bruised. I will try to fool you that it is all about informing the public, so that they know when and where you are playing etc. But I think that it is more to do with my feeling that we are being treated like an irrelevant aside. And nobody wants to be an irrelevant aside. Good name for a band that, The Irrelevant Asides.
